Luminescence
Creator: Ultimate Shadow

Q1. What is your game and what is it about?

US: My game is Luminescence. It's an action love story in a realistic fantasy world. Luminescence is about a 16-year-old boy, Jersey. He has been trying to get the girl of his dreams for years and finally figured a way to make her love him. Hearing about some new discovery called Luminescence, he heads out to find it with not even knowing what it is. He takes his reliable machete, Reminiscence, with him and finds out more than what he wanted to. Luminescence is much much more than a mystical item.

Q2. How will your game tackle the theme of an "Action Love Story?"

US: Using the idea of a boy trying to get a girl of his dreams, it gets the Love Story theme. However, everything that happens in the game is all intense. With a violent CBS, Action RPG, it'll fit with the story. You sometimes end up in times when you must actually have to kill people. Sad yes, but it may need to be done. Also, there are times when you must get through many places that have traps. You can run on walls and do all sorts of crazy things. Most of the action comes from the gameplay.

Q3. Speaking of gameplay, would you mind sharing some of its unique aspects?

US: Why yes, this game shines in this department. There is a CBS that I'm making. It's a hardcore bloody battle system. You can use a feature I'm adding called Wall Run. You can run along walls to get across things or fight. When on the wall, you can jump off and attack in mid-air at enemies. It is an RPG too, which makes the battle system a Action RPG. There is something I'm adding called Empathy. You can call it a special but it's sort of different. While playing the game, your feelings build up making you weak because of depression. When it's put to the limit, your weapon absorbs the feelings and replaces it with power. You become stronger which can last some time. When it's all done, Jersey feels better again and your weapon is back to normal. There is a new system that replaces the old Magic system. It's called the Blood Junction which everyone has since it is a realistic world. The blood type you are has abilities can do such things as make you faster or stronger. They also have their downsides. I am still coming up with new ways for fun, though.

Q4. Could could introduce a couple more characters, or expand a little on the main characters?

US: Well I haven't worked a lot on other characters so I'll explain Jersey a bit more. He's the type of person where everyone knows a different side to him. However, he is always upbeat and carefree. He'll be silent around those that are not his friends or people he dislikes, though. He really doesn't care what others think about him though. Jersey only cares about what Heather thinks, the girl of his dreams. He loves Heather and has been trying to get her for quite some time. You can pretty much say she's his life. His whole like revolves around her. Most cases though, he doesn't like to show his feelings and is sort of mean. This is a turnoff to her and everyone else. Jersey is always depressed because of his love life. Always calling himself a failure and taking it out on everyone else, he doesn't know what to do. Then he heard about Luminescence.

Q5. So, do you have any other games in development besides this one?

US: Well, only one to be honest. But I am going to work on a second one. The other game I am working on is Pirate Zero. I would have to say it's a Grand Theft Auto with pirates. It should be pretty neat when it's done, but it's going to be released before this game. Due to my lack of knowledge for the RPG Maker 2, I have to use this as a partial practice game. When I complete these two games, I will work on Luminescence: The Overture. It's pretty much a prequal to Luminescence. It'll tell the story of Jersey when he's younger and clear out some of the flaws in Luminescence. Maybe, just maybe, I'll make an other Luminescence game about an other game character. Jersey's best friend aka enemy, Chail.

Q6. What have you found to be your favorite aspect of RPG Maker 2 so far?

US: Probably the effects. You can pretty much make anything you wanted to see. I always wanted to add blood and now I can. You can also have the weapon attacks for CBS. It's so great. An other thing I like is the freedom. I can make a great CBS with it, and my Wall Run feature. I never thought I could of made these. I just hate trying to learn this thing... So confusing, yet it has worthy results. I was thinking it be a more enhanced version of the first RPG Maker, but it's not.

Q7. The opposite for this one. What is your least favorite aspect of RPG Maker 2 and do you think it'll interfere with your ability to shape your creation?

US: My least favorite aspect is the scripts, hands down. Too complicated, way too complicated. I even looked at some script creations and tried to study them and they make no sense at me. It may allow more creation, but it doesn't to be working for me. I can't even make one dungeon with good events put down. Till I figure out how to make good scripts, my Pirate Zero game is going to be kind of limited. Why must they do this to me, why? Oh well, anything can be mastered...

Q8. What advice would you give to someone just receiving RPG Maker 1 or 2?

US: Never give up. Most new people usually give up since they can't understand this and always get frustrated and take it out on others. Be determined and read what others have said at places. If you don't know something, don't start yelling and say these games are a bunch of junk and quit. Instead, actually ask other people because people are always generous to help. At first you don't succeed, try try again is how the saying goes.

Thanks for your time.
