Political correctness delving into the realm of just no common sense whatsoever.

By the way, NLY, it's better to link and quote, just in case the article goes missing. ;)

Poor taste and poor judgement, to the school and the people who hug eachother, huh?

I could go on about how much bullsh*t I think that is... but it really speaks for it's self.

I think there are two things going on here. I didn't really notice what the guy said until Lantis pointed it out. I think that is ridiculous what the guy said, and I think that it reflects a minority of what people believe although that guy himself may be relatively uptight and wants to take us back to the days of the 50's in small town USA or the Eastern Bloc.

That having been said, administrators are so afraid not to comply with the letter of the law (as they can see real damage to their careers) that rather than go with the common sense, they go with proper (albeit unpopular) strict interpretation. Hopefully, they will be afforded more leeway, or specific examples will be addressed as guidlines, but it is hard not to be sympathetic to people who are afraid of losing their jobs (by not complying with what IS written as the code).

I agree with what Bo says. If you are in the teacher's side, then you have two options. Either report it, or don't.

-If you don't, you run a risk of really hurting your career by not reporting an incident.

On the other hand, if you do report it, then you can be free of any real pressures about your career. The school may not like you very much, but it's a small price to pay. After all, as I've learned from retail, anyone can and will stab you in the back.

Had that person not reported the hug, we would be talking about things in reverse.

While we are on this subject, where the hell does the idea that displays of affection "are in poor taste" and etc come from?

Only person I can picture saying that line is... uh... well, no bloody human being I've ever met.

it makes enough sense. it might be 'in poor taste' to have a massive bondage orgy in the middle of an intersection because it would be in the way of cars and because a lot of people might be offended, mentally scarred, small children hurt etc, by the sight of it. it also might be in bad taste for two people to loudly be climbing down each others throats in a funeral service or something.

the whole idea with this article is that it's taken too far as hugs are very simple and generally not offensive to anyone unless maybe the receiver is quite unwanting of the hug.

*shrug*

I always think this kind of stuff is hilarious.
Not because of how misguided the act is, but because of the reactions people have to this kind of thing. It's like the "under god" thing. You know it was never a huge deal the first time it became a problem, but as soon as people heard about it, they went nuts.
People are hilarious.
