http://www.savetheinternet.com - visit the site
http://www.civic.moveon.org/save_the_internet - signthepetition
http://www.myspace.com/savetheinternet - add them to myspace

"Congress is pushing a law that would abandon the Internet's First Amendment -- a principle called Network Neutrality that prevents companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast from deciding which Web sites work best for you -- based on what site pays them the most. If the public doesn't speak up now, our elected officials will cave to a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign."

-from savetheinternet.com

For the few members who arn't american, it technically doesn't affect us but it will eventually, if it gets passed. most likely. >_> Point being you have to fake a zip code on the petition - I suggest 31337 ^.^

Nah, I don't feel like joining the petition, as I really don't care. Why? Here's my prediction -- when it hits American shores, it'll effect us at first. Hard. But what will happen after 1 or 2 months? There will be so many complaints and gripes that people will stop using the internet altogether except for businesses, and eventually the population of users of the internet will drop so low that the companies will lose money and they'll have to undo what they did. Then what? They'll put it right back to where it is. And they'll never do it again.

And if I'm wrong, I'll get myself a job at AT&T.

You can always look up a zip code which is easier. I remember this article about a month or two back.

Actually it went through congress at an 11-11 tie but it has to go to supreme court now but someone has a hold on it so its stagnent at the moment as far as i can tell.
Quote:
The Commerce Committee voted on net neutrality and it failed on an 11-11 tie. This vote was a gift to cable and telephone companies, and a slap in the face of every Internet user and consumer.

[quote]This bill was passed in committee over our objections. Now we need to fight to either fix it or kill it in the full Senate. Senator Wyden has already drawn a line in the sand — putting a “holdâ€

We have some form of democracy, but its not used into full fledged force. Either way the internet will exist both legal and illegal. Afterall someone's got to pay for it even if its not much.

Even if we lose certain liberties on the net, there will always be certain rogue networks that will appear to support free internet usage. After all the internet is just a network of networks... isn't it? :?

Or get a job at Google. A nice office by the window with a big paycheck, that's my dream job.
