So, am I to believe there's absolutely no way to include more than 3 characters in a cutscene? This kinda sucks, because my style is incredibly full-scaled and this is slightly minimal... Also, when it says you can only have 300 items in the game, do they mean 300 items total? Or 300 different kind of items?

Oh, and one more thing... can you make characters enemies? From what I read in the manual, it seems like only monsters can be enemies... but any RPG I've ever played has a human enemy...or at least a character in the game.. any insight on this one?

Thanks in advance for all your help

I don't know if you know this, but "cutscenes" comprise of static backgrounds with character portraits depictiing people in the cutscene. True that only three portraits can be onscreen at one time, but it is entirely possible to switch out one character's portrait for another.

When it says 300 items, that pretty much means 300 items you can potentially make.

You can have characters as enemies, yes. However, you can't have the characters appear in the same battles as monsters, and you don't get any XP or money from defeating them. There are a few human "monsters" though, and one or two of them have similar-looking character models.

ohhh, okay - that doesn't seem too bad. As long as you can switch out the portaits, that will be great.

When you say a character can be an enemy - that means he can be in a battle alone as long as he's not with any monsters? (just trying to clarify)

thanks for all the info!

You set up an event, go to the event code and go to "control". There should be a setting in there that says "Battle(Characters)".

Yeah characters can be in battle, but not with any monsters aside from the "animal" characters available.

Wonderful! Okay, you guys are great, so I have a couple more questions.

1) Is it at all possible for your character to have a conversation outside of storyteller mode? It's a bit too anime and tacky for my taste...

2) Also, is it possible to cause a dungeon/town to be demolished after an event?

3) Is it possible to lose your main character and play with another PC? (ex: FFVI - they split up into 3 groups and you get to control each group separately)

4) Can your Main PC change appearance? Such as dressing up like a woman or a merchant, etc etc?

Sorry about all the questions, but you guys know your stuff :D Thanks!

Well, I can't answer all of these ( :o ), but I can give some suggestions...

1) Yes you can. During the event, go to the "Display" menu then go to "Message". I think that's it.
2) I'm not sure, but you can make characters disappear (post a reply if you want to know how to do that).
3) You can, but it can be confusing to get them back and can mess up your story. Make an event, go to "Party Control" and go to "Leave Party". The character leaves and then you can add a new character or get them back later
4) To do that you have to create a whole new character, I don't know if it's worth the trouble, because they'd be the wrong level, so on and so on...

Does that help? :?

Yes that was very helpful. So happy to hear we can still have convos outside of storyteller :)

On #4 though, I guess it would work if I only let the costume change happen in a specific town...I could make the main PC at level 1 since he doesn't have any of his regular gear possibly, as long as there are no fights, he'd be fine.... hmmmmmm...... I think I can do that.

Oh, and I have one final question!!

On the layout editor (and even on the field preview), it won't let me put objects below a certain point on my field - does anyone know how to fix that? I know it must be possible...why would they give you a bigger map than you can actually work with? I feel like I've tried everything, but it just won't happen... any ideas?

Thanks again guys!!

(if anyone else knows about demolishing a dungeon or town, let me know.)

One thing you need to know about conversations outside the storyteller, you can't have people walking around. At the most, you can have a person perform an action like wave or nod, and change the direction they're facing. You can't do anything at all with the party. If you're okay with people standing in one place and with no camera control, then go for it.

He's got a really good question! That map limitation blows donkey dick.

Well, for demolition of a town-do you want remnants of the town? Or just make it go bye bye?

If you want remnants than your going to have to 1.make a copy of your map 2. rework your town with less buildings but none of them are going to look destroyed, or you could elevate the land around the town and make rock were the town used to be to give a semblance of destruction. (I'm not sure if this ones possible-you could set an invisible event that triggers a warp from said rock/destroyed area to a town with no buildings or decadent appeal.)

To Make A Town Go Bye Bye, just delete the town from a 2nd map you warp to that's a copy of old town.

A dungeon is rather simple, copy the map-delete dungeon on second map and have him warp to the second map without said dungeon.

I had to make a town appear to be destroyed as well...
it wasn't anything THAT great but what I did do was:

-Put Smoke signals behind the buildings, as hidden as possible
-Made all the trees either fallen trees or the destroyed ones

That's the best I could think of to use. The town kinda looks destroyed
:\
