Okay, so, the ET thing...
I thought those cartridges were confirmed a long time ago. I wonder what this means for the Angry Video Game Nerd Movie. That was centered around finding those copies. Also, I was interested in seeing this documentary until I read this part...

Now, for the Occulus thing, that's more along the lines of the sort of thing I'd really enjoy from a first-person console. Something beyond the obvious first-person shooters and Facebook cheating dolphins. It would also be interesting if you did a flip when you jumped as Sonic, but I imagine that would be very disorientating.

And for the other videos, I like what they did with them, even if they're not complete. Stuff like Samus's visor ending if you happen to look to the side. And playing Mario 64 in first-person looks like it would be very disorientating. I mean, how would that work? Is movement tied to the direction you look, or separate? I'm not sure which way would feel better. The more homebrew stuff is interesting, though. I'd totally try to play through Zelda 1 if I could do it in first-person view. But what really caught my interest was the proof-of-concept Mario Kart. Mainly the fact that you could see Mario's big honker beneath your view. That's an aspect of reality you almost never see in first-person games. Whether you're aware of it or not, your nose is in your field of view. Just cover one of your eyes. There it is in the corner. It would be awesome if I were playing a furry game, and my muzzle was there in front of me. Also, playing Mario Kart in first-person view would just be awesome.

The writer of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon believes we won't see an openly homosexual protagonist in a triple-A game for some time [highlight]out of fears that sales would be hurt. "We'll definitely see more of them, and I think it's happening quietly," he said. "Look at the choices offered in Mass Effect 2 & 3, or Fable 3, or Dragon Age II or Skyrim, the gay characters in Borderlands 2 who mention it without much fanfare, etc.

"What do you think the odds are that we’ll get a mid-30s stubbly-bearded brown-haired white guy with a raspy voice who is gay as a lead character in a AAA title?" Richard Dansky, the company's "Central Clancy Writer" (yes, that's a thing) asked Lucien Soulban, an openly gay man who's worked on blockbuster shooter franchises like Far Cry and Rainbow Six.

"Not for a while, I suspect, because of fears that it'll impact sales," Soulban responded. In his view, commercial constraints are the chief barrier to diversifying video game characters and stories. At best, what AAA game developers can do now is relegate LGBT characters to supporting roles, or pull a sort of "bait-and-switch" on players like Nintendo famously did when it revealed that Metroid star Samus Aran was actually a woman underneath her suit of power armor. Either that, or what BioWare has done with its Dragon Age and Mass Effect games—let players decide the sexuality of their characters and chalk the decision up to player choice.


Story 2b: Developer asks LGBT advocates to include video games among their awards

"Wouldn't it be great to honor and recognize outstanding examples in video games who strive for inclusion, rather than weigh in on this issue in a public manner for negative reasons instead of positive ones?" writes Justin Amirkhani of Vagabond Dog, makers of the well regarded Always Sometimes Monsters.

"Speaking as a developer who has built a game from the ground up with this sort of freedom in mind, allow me to clarify that the sorts of options GLAAD wants to see in games do not come easily," he wrote. "We, and other developers I'm sure, think it would be great for a respected, powerful organization such as GLAAD to finally recognize the positivity in the video game industry," Amirkhani wrote.

Story #3 - Google buys TwitchTV for 1billion

The deal, in an all-cash offer, is expected to be announced imminently, sources said. If completed the acquisition would be the most significant in the history of YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The impending acquisition comes after longtime Google ad exec Susan Wojcicki was named CEO of YouTube earlier this year.

Reps for YouTube and Twitch declined to comment.

Unless we don't have anything else to talk about this Sunday, I'd recommend talking about Mario Kart 8 first impressions as well as the Retron5. I've got mine today and have been playing a lot with it. So that would be a good (and very relevant) topic.

Other than that, the only new game that I have any extensive knowledge of is Transistor. The second game from the guys who made Bastion. It's three weeks old, but I still think it's new enough to talk about.
