It definitely breaks down to these things when it comes to avoiding a phishing attack:
* An actual representative from a website will never, NEVER ask for your password or personal information (can apply to phone calls claiming to be from certain companies as well).
* Double-check the "From" information. The domain may not even be close to the company it claims to be from.
* Don't click links in the email as they may lead to a fake login screen. Best thing to do is open a new tab and enter the site from there.
* Sites often have means of reporting phishing scams claiming to be from them. Let those sites know ASAP.
