I am moving to the north side of Shreveport (Bossier City) next weekend, and as you can probably guess, it's a step up in population and aesthetic scenery from Marshall, Texas, where I've generally been living since March of 2009.


One teensy little problem, though. .... I am moving to a location where there are 361 sex offenders within about a 15 mile radius.

Just while packing up stuff for the move a little while ago, I had a Dane Cook skit playing on YT in the background (sometimes you just don't care about quality of entertainment) for noise, and he mentioned that you should NEVER GO TO FAMILYWATCHDOG ON THE INTERNET. Naturally I thought he was exaggerating for humor when he said that an obscene amount of red dots appeared all over the map when he typed in his address. ... He wasn't.



Well, I guess I personally don't have to worry so much seeing as I am a guy well over legal adult age, but, just ... knowing they are there.

But, hey, maybe it's unnecessary to identify them so publicly to the rest of the world. I understand that people can change after doing some crazy evil stuff.


Here's the really scary part, though. Onscreen with the map were rankings for Bossier City in comparison to the national average on various crimes, and murder and burglary were the only ones which were lower than the average, even though I hear like 3 different new crimes in Caddo parish - because Louisianans just have to have a different term for "county", like it makes them seem a particularly quaint part of the South or something - being reported on the radio every morning on my way to work, and they are always just murder and burglary. So, if we're above the average on the forced rape and I never hear it being reported on the radio, .... HOW OFTEN IS IT HAPPENING IN CADDO? Seriously, I could just be sitting nice and pretty in my new luxurious apartment in Bossier City late at night playing Wild Arms or something, thinking all is right with the world, and its probably even odds that a violent crime is happening within mere blocks away from me somewhere in the still darkness.

Guys, for once take Dane Cook's advice: DON'T GO TO FAMILY WATCHDOG. You may not want to know the stats.

Eh, I live in one of the cesspools of Ohio. There's a registered sex offender living less than 200 feet from me, and he has been living there for years now.

Yeah I agree with everyone else. Never look at that stuff.

I hardly count SPBC as beautiful, but some parts are pretty nice. And yeah stuff like that on the internet is the devil. (I can't really say anything about SPBC I suppose. Texarkana is absolutely horrid on crime.)

It is what it is SK. You just have to be always aware of your surroundings. which at times is not an easy task. Anyway congrats and I hope all goes well in the move!

Dude, there way more rape going on all over the world than you think. It's always there. You might as well have spent your entire life living by 362 sex offenders, only they're not registered in the Big Sex Offender Database.

It's awful, isn't it? Kind of disgusting and stomach-wrenching? Yup. Rest assured though that there are many people in many places fighting hard for this kind of thing to stop happening. It's one of the big mankind movements of the twenty-first century.
