Been contacted the last two days about jobs from two different companies. The one that called today sounded like it will work out and I feel confident in that. Plus it sounds interesting. Also, after about the first month, I get to go to Switzerland for training for a couple of weeks and they'll pay for all of that, the flight, the place I get to stay, everything. The only thing I'd pay for is food and anything else I want to buy. The job overall sounds up my alley for a first job and they seem like a good company. If I get called for interview round 2 next week (and I'm sure I will), then I'm sure i'll get the job. It's pretty exciting, and I only applied a little over half a month ago.

Syn, that's awesome!

Today, my friend and I walked for like 3.5 hours at the dam around here - 10pm-130am. Of course, the trails went to the woods so I obviously couldn't see anything (yay glasses). Kept hearing noises and I was getting freaked out because I couldn't see, and we couldn't tell if it was an animal, or what.

Oh yeah, and we walked by a chick giving a dude a BJ. Pretty memorable night.

The world did not ended! Yay!
Wait.. so I DO have to pat this month's bills? Oh....crap! Being alive today makes me regret having so much fun yesterday and spending money in random stuff, the comic con and at the movies.
But then again, I was going to be so pissed if the world ended in mid movie! I need my dose of pirates!

Now I really want a job. One of my all time favorite bands, Judas Priest, is doing their final tour and they're hitting just about every major city in just about every country in the world. They'll be here in Houston in October (which I hope I'll be here, but if not, whatever location I may be at), and the ticket prices... wow. To sit far away from the stage on the lawn? $98. I sh*t you not. However, I feel the desire to grab tickets further down, even at a steeper price. I never got to see these guys in the 80s when they were at their best, and now they're on their last tour, so I really want to see them to be able to say, "I saw Judas Priest live at least ONCE in my life."

So guys, I just went to my first 3D movie since I was 8 and at Disney World. I was with the inlaws and they wanted to see Pirates 4. So they just picked a time without knowing there was a 2D version and 3D version. As luck would have it, they picked a time that only the 3D version was showing. YAY, LUCKY ME!

*Goes to get a mop to sop up all the sarcasm dripping on the floor*

What I though? Well, 3D isn't any more impressive now as it was 18 years ago. It's a novelty that's already worn off it's welcome. I wasn't one of those people who got a headache from it, but I definitely felt discomfort the whole time. It's really hard to explain. But I could just feel it.

And on top of that, 3D is never going to look genuine anyways. And here's why: the way depth perception works in 3D is that they have what they want you to look at (mainly the characters in screen). Then there's the background and foreground. In real life, when you look past something and focus on whatever it is you are looking at, everything you looked past is blurry as it isn't in focus. So in a movie, they emulate this. The problem with this is that you'll want to sometimes focus on the items in the foreground or background. But because there is no real depth in the thing you are seeing, it'll still be blurry and kind of ruin the whole 3D effect.

Anyways. I read up on how the 3D glasses work. Basically the screen projects two different images (or signals). Each lens in the glasses is polarized to a different signal. So your eyes are seeing two different (albeit very similar) images. You're eyes are forced to adjust (I believe by sightly crossing) and produce the effect of 3D. The Virtual Boy had a similar but more crude concept.

So you know what I did? I kept my pair of glasses as well as my wife's. I took a dremel and cut the right frame of one pair and the left frame of the other and took the lens out:

Image

In this picture you can see that I had already fitted the right pair with the lens of the pair from the left. There was actually a tab on the lens to make sure you couldn't put it in the wrong side, so I had to dremel that off too. Also, the lenses are flat, so flipping them allowed them to fit in the wrong side.

Get some hot glue, dremel down the extra glue when dried, and shapie the glue afterwards and you got this:

Image

A pair of 2D 3D glasses. Since both lenses in these pairs of glasses are polarized to see just one of the two images, the 3D effect is negated and you'll now be able to avoid having to watch 3D movies if you don't want to anymore.

I wish I could take credit for it, but the original idea was Hank Greens.

Netflix usually has a one or two week free trial upon signing up.
Here's a link for one free month trial of Netflix.
Must be redeemed by the fifteenth.

Did it suck? Or was it worth the thirteen-year wait?

It was rather underwhelming actually. Not what I was expecting from over a decade of work. It wasn't bad by any means... but it's just not that amazing. FPSs can only go so far, I suppose.

For example. Portal DOES something with the FPS genre and adds a really awesome puzzle-y twist to it. Left 4 Dead adds the most interesting co-op (as it is 100% required to play) in a FPS. The Duke demo? Nothing new. You shoot some things and you drive a truck around for a bit.

But this was just a demo, the full game HAS to be much better...

...right?

Let's put it this way... an awesome demo almost always guarantees a bad to average game. A bad to decent demo leads to a great game. When I played Vesperia's demo, I wasn't impressed too much with it, but it turned out to be a great game to play. I've heard from others that demos were great but the full game was eh. Should be a sign of things to come, hopefully.

Not like it was actually in development for that long, it kept switching hands and every time became a completely new game, so you should probably expect what you should from an average FPS.
