I figure this would be an easy discussion. Plenty of famous long-running shows that can be easy to hate. I shall start.

Pokémon. An obvious choice, yes? Ash has been 10 years old for over ten years, now. Pikachu and other various characters also seem to be plenty immortal. But that's trivial. What really bothered me when I stopped watching the show was that each episode seemed to follow the same formula. We're introduced to the character(s) of the episode (who will likely never be seen, again). They're something morally wrong going on with those characters. Team Rocket is spying on the heroes at the time. They're either going to try to steal Pikachu, or the Pokémon featured for that episode. Ultimately, they're defeated by... Pikachu zapping the ground, causing it to explode and they fly off into the distance. And their interferance ultimately makes all things better with the episode's actual plot, probably by giving a person or pokémon some extra motivation to succeed or something. And the episode closes off with a moral of the story. To be continued.

Seriously, the show should've either ended after the Orange Islands, or they should'ved on to some new characters, and give Ash and friends an occasional cameo, maybe.

Spongebob Squarepants. I'll confidently admit that I was one of those who ejoyed the show. But somewhere along the line, something changed. Not sure how. Seems like the witty random humor started being less witty and more "does not make sense" or too predictable. And predictable randomness is not a good thing, nor is complete randomness. Plus I hate Spongebob's newer voice. I'll still watch the old episodes, though. And what I caught of the movie, I thought was decent.

The Fairly Oddparents. Looking back, I don't know why I used to like this show. I read somebody's review on it, once, and they made a good point: every character in the show is an idiot. It's not so bad when there's one character that's an idiot, but everyone? But I guess something had to be done, considering how freaking huge the magical mistakes can be in the show. I might watch a few episodes, and the first TV movies were okay, but otherwise it's one I'll avoid altogether. And it turns out that I seemed to have missed much of the show. Who the heck is this character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FairlyOddParents.jpg

Heroes. What's this? A drama? I didn't want to see a drama, I wanted to see a superhero show. Stop being emo and go fly around, or lift cars, or something.

TV in general, yo. I think the only thing I watch these days is Mythbusters and Family Guy.

That's it.

Take off all "reality" shows. Waste of space and have no value, really.

I dunno, I think Biggest Loser's an exception. Rather inspiring show.

I'd like to take a shovel 20 times to "Biggest Loser"'s head because of how freaking drawn out the show is. The weighing's could be done in about 8 minutes yet they manage to stall, dramatize, annoy, fillerize, sensationalize, and commercialize about 40 minutes out of it. That is the main reason I don't watch it anymore. Plus they used to (and may still) do advertisements for their sponsers 'concealed' as part of the contestant's storyline or training. It was enough to make anyone anti-corporate. Yeah, take that show off.

Yeah, they still do that, and it makes me groan every time. Though it's not as bad as last season. Seemed like every episode either had an invertisement for Extra gum or Ziploc bags. This season, yesterday was the first time I think they did one for Extra, I think. A couple other episodes sneaked a shot of somebody chewing the gum, and a few more talk about the gum during the "Trainer Tips" segment, but I don't think that's a big deal. Less intrusive that way.

Speaking of last season, the drawing out of the weight went to an extreme one time. The contestants had this challenge where if everyone lost a certain amount of weight or something, nobody would go home that week or something. It came down to the last contestant, and right before his weight was shown, guess what three words appeared onscreen? I thought it was pretty cool, actually. You don't normally see real cliffhangers in shows like these, and I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys them, in moderation. And I figure the reason they did it in this case was because people might look at how much show time is left, and see if there's not much time left, which would mean that they succeeded and nobody would go home, or else there'd be ten minutes left, which would mean they still have to go through the votes. Not just a theory, I was actually checking, myself.

Well I admit that it might seem to the regular viewer that if it went down to the end of the hour then all would be safe because otherwise they would be showing the elimination but that need not have been so. They also could have showed that not all were safe if that were the case and then you'd have to wait until next time to see who was eliminated. So it would have been wrong for the audience member to assume this but they presumably would assume this so I understand your point. Nevertheless there was no need to have a cliffhanger except that is what the show always disgustingly is (like before commerical's at weighings as though we won't come back after commerical...although because of that I'm not even there before commercial anymore). If they really wanted it to not be a cliffhanger and assumed the audience would expect that to the wire meant all were safe, they could have just ended it regular time and in the ten minutes usually used for elimination (assuming all were safe) talked to the contestants about what it felt like being safe or any other such filler that I'm sure they had. They could have even briefly started next weeks show if they truly had nothing else to fill that time. They used and abused their viewers plain and simple. If you like that sort of thing, fine. No way in Hell I do.

Location: Out there. In that place. You know, with the "thing"
Simpsons.

Yes, the Simpsons need to wrap this sh*t up. every one has moved on to Family Guy, and while, true, that show has basically the same plot, (Fat man has smarter, more responsible wife, 2.5 kids, lives in fictitious town with ever expanding cast of supporting characters>>Hilarity ensues through witty social commentary and well placed yet random sight gags) the Simpson's don't evolve as characters. It is the eventual bane of any cartoon sitcom and even Family Guy is reaching this point, (although, Family Guy has poked fun at themselves in this regard on occasion so you know the writers know this point as well) but the Simpson's hit that wall 5 seasons ago.

Bart was supposedly an 8 year old boy at the show's out set and he was a typical youth of the late 80's/early 90's. He was Denis the Menace, mixed with equal parts River Pheonix and crack. And you know what? That was what made him compelling; that at the same time he was also a vulnerable and impressionable boy just entering puberty. He was socially relevant, but as the years wore on, he became more a meter for the contemporary youth. He was constantly reinvented, and while that sounds good on paper, at the end of the day, he is still an 8 year old boy who has the out look on the world of an 8 year old boy. As a character he is reset to default at the beginning of each episode, with the "default" being what ever the writers feel is the pulse of the times. He is no longer a character; Bart Simpson has become a mirror for the attitudes of the pre-teen demographic and nothing more.

As for marge and homer, there was point where each episode was but another challenge to their "love" and by the end of the episode, you would have homer or marge flashing back to some pivotal moment during a point in their lives where one or the other had proven their "love" was indeed "eternal" and then they would return to wedded bliss, knowing that they were stronger for the experience. This usually takes the form of:
A) Homer screwing up on some task marge has put him to,
B) Homer either being perceived as being unfaithful or him being "tempted" by another womans' wiles,
C) Homer finding some new hobby or success, leading to a fundamental change in the dynamic of their relation ship,
or D) Any combination of the above, and/or except vice-versa.

The final nail in the coffin for this show is the fact that South Park even said (and proved to some extent) that the show had literally done EVERY conceivable plot. It is time to put this one to bed folks.

I'm very picky when it comes to tv.

Yes, most of it is junk. The cartoons suck, excluding various Adult Swim shows and Chowder, that cartoon is pretty clever. I also enjoy me some Colbert Report and some John Stewart.
