Howdy, gang. This is the blog to work on Studio Mag's RPG Maker 1 epic, Acre-age! This game is the only Farm Sim/Traditional RPG for RPG Maker and is a pirate-based epic.

1/13/09
I'm in the process of the 2nd big scene of Acre-age, which I believe will end up being 5 scenes instead of the 4 I predicted a while back. I need the extra space to make the story make sense.

Yeah, I was at work when I was posting, but didn't want to lose the main thing I was talking about.

Um, I believe there's Farm Life on the RPGM2.

But nonetheless, it's good to see some work being done.

For RPG Maker (1), it is. Which is what I was referring to. :p

I've read over my past notes and have really gotten a frame of mind going on for the game. I still do not know how I want to end the game, but I do know what events will be happening.

Should I really care about the game making sense? To tie up every plot point? Do villains have to have a background or can they just come out of nowhere?

Answers that I have to find out as I'm working.

As far as the aquatic-based town, I'm wondering if I should expend the efforts to have them say different things to you after you've done most of what you can there or not, like in the main town. I'm leaning towards yes, but it would be a lot of work. I might not do that.

What do you think?

I think that is the best approach. See where it leads you.

Well, there were times, where things that didn't made sense prevented me from working on the story. did try to figure it out while working, but there were times, where I had to stop and think.

I think that if it were me, I would have opted to add the extra dialog. In ine hand, it does take time, but on the other, I'd get that feeling of satisfaction for giving the town a bit more life.

I've decided to go ahead and go all out for this game. I will make them say different things each day. That means that Acre-age will be a freaking massive game. It should be fitting as a magnum opus. :)

And I've also announced that I'm stopping Mag activity to finish the game. I hope to release it first of the Trifecta games.

Since I have finally abandoned the site to work on this game full-time, I've realized that:

1. Controller typing makes it so that my brain has ideas faster than my hands can type.
2. I need to have big, complicated events with lots of takeovers which take a good time to get working.
3. I'm still having fun doing it.

Which is easily the most important thing you can have going for you.

I've finally frameworked the entirety of the rest of the story on paper. I have a story that I think I can do competently and it should work with all the fantasy and farming themes I have.

Heavy spoilers within. I mean it. This is the entire plot of Acre-age, plus or minus a few details.

You know how Jance is sent down to earth to learn a lesson? Well, that lesson is a lesson about the pains of humanity. In actuality, Jance is a god.

The thing is, Jance was a total asshole in the past. His mother split his form into two: the powerless human form, which also held the few pieces of his kind nature (which was little) and the other piece has simply his god powers and ambition

Her plan was to reunite the two halfs once Jance had finally finished his lesson, but something happened. Without his kindness to restain him, Jance's god powers and ambition form into a new entity, currently titled Evil Jance Or EJ, if you will

EJ knows everything about what's happened, and he's plotting to regain his full powers from his current weakened form.

EJ knows that if Good Jance (GJ) and he recombine, that he will cease to exist. And thus, he decided to use the Landlubber's Grand Don through the ploy of finding an artifact that will grant him immortality.

However, EJ's true goal is to destroy GJ before he finally understands the meaning of the mortal condition

EJ discloses the location of a spellbook, a legendary artifact that can allow the user to use magic and whatnot, to summon freakish creatures. Lezemier, the LLs chief researcher, is studying the book, trying to decipher it now. That's why he will be able to summon more freak creatures as the game progresses.

Yeah, EJ wants to eliminate GJ, but he can't move on his own without the ultimate spell that is within it

So really, it's a race for Jance to take down the Landlubbers before they unleash the ultimate spell and bring Evil Jance into full power and a race for Evil Jance to kill Jance before Jance can merge with him again.

Yeah, a big focus of the gameplay is farming, but it is also a traditional RPG, so this is what I've got for that.

I've been working on Acre-age and I've decided to remove the entire world map from the game. I have created the area that connects a few of the previous areas together and will need to make another one to bridge another gap. The first area which connects Malonia Village to the rest of Malonia is something I'm proud of. It looks pretty nice.

I'm already working on converting the previous memory card so that it accepts the new changes. Good thing I made it early!

I've also decided to create every area in the game first, then create the events for it. My reasoning is that I want to keep this game confined to 1 SYS card, and it's impossible if I don't limit the scope. You can expect 3 towns, enemy base, and other stuff I mentioned in the story-spoiling post above.

This is proof I'm working on the game. :p

Yes, but I didn't plan on having my world turned upside down for 3 months, either.

At least I'm working on mine, ass. :p
