[spoiler]Because when you hit 0 HP, you aren't dead... you are knocked out. Phoenix Downs bring you back to conciousness.... not death. So in Aeris' case, a Pheonix Down wouldn't do anything anyway.[/spoiler]

Speaking of which, maybe they actually make a game that kills you after 4 knife stabs this time? I haven't seen real vulnerability to blades since CS.

[spoiler]Well, there's never been a way to justify half the attacks done to the character. Hell the first enemy in FF7 were men with guns. One bullet to the head should be enoug... but instead does 7 points of damage. I'm just saying there's a difference between KO status and just being dead. Though it is funny that a sword through the gut is fatal were as opening up a fully automatic weapon is tolerable.[/spoiler]

Actually, I hear that Mirror's Edge is going to do a more realistic damage intake... and Assassin's Creed did as well. At full health, a well placed sword swing to your head was death.

My dream action game is the one where both you and the enemy can do lethal damage pretty easily, and you have to concentrate on hitting him while avoiding his attacks, and not on withstanding damage while dealing damage.

actually, you can look at the old old thread I posted about assassin's creed before it came out... I posted a video of someone testplaying it that actually died that way.
