Alright, let's try this. I think suicide is wrong. The end.

Does anyone think that instigating has nothing to do with why he suicided online with people yelling? Instigation well can get you locked up, you don't even have to participate in the action. If you talk someone into it technically you started it. Around the lines of manipulation.

i think that making this a topic is a little risky. some people will feel pretty strongly about this, which can lead to... perhaps a little more personal involvement than in most threads. this is potentially a pretty fractious topic. ^^ yesno?

other than that i'm not really up for airing my views on this one. partly because i'd get called a dirty liberal and hounded out of the Internet. =P

i didn't actually read any but the shortest posts here ^_^

let alone that mammoth quote at the start.

The only topics worth talking about are the ones in which people feel strongly.

haha, i'd debate that. i enjoy talking to other people about what we've done today, for instance. i wouldn't say we feel strongly about the notes we're comparing. but it's still worthwhile.

i'd furthermore argue a difference between a conversation in which the participants 'feel strongly' about something (feeling strongly about, say, a love of clouds), and a conversation where incompatible but deeply held beliefs are brought into conflict without any objective rationality at all. the difference may only be that in the latter case people can sometimes take the conversation too seriously.

^^ or something. i talk too much. *shuts self up*

Sigh.. The man wanted to die. He got what he wanted. He went out with a bang in a chat room full of 5 year olds. And thats it. May he rest in peace and rise to be the next Easter bunny...

Why not? Jesus did it. :P

@Regal

I don't literally believe that the only topics worth talking about are the ones people feel strongly about, but I think that people waste WAY WAY to much time yapping about nothing.

Quite honestly I (respectfully) could care less what you did today, but I do value your opinion that you do not agree that the only topics worth talking about are ones people feel strongly about.

Now I admit that maybe an internet forum is the MAIN mode by which some people relate, but it is not for me. If I care about what somebody did today it is going to be a close friend. I look to forums specifically to hear opinions and to argue (debate) them since most people in my everyday life don't want to do that.

Having said that, I need to learn more to let other shoot the shi! because to them the forum is about 'hanging out' with close friends. On the other hand, I think you need to recognize that there is absolutely nothing wrong with topics that are 'fratious' for those of us who want them because nobody in the community is forced to engage.

I was originally responding to when you said “making this a topic was a little riskyâ€
