I'm always curious where people get their usernames & avatars from. They are effectively your face online and, unlike in real life, you can choose and alter your identity to suit who and what you feel you are inside.

My username is fairly obvious, if you know anything about Ancient Egyptian history, language, or mythology. Basically Thutmose translates as "One who is born of Thoth" or "the son of Thoth". Thoth is the god of knowledge, intelligence, language, mathematics, justice/order, and the heart (i.e. the soul). He is also the patron god of scribes, as he is credited with inventing writing and gifting it to humanity.

Given that I work in the field of education, my love of books, and my interest in the AE hieroglyphic language (and other ancient languages), I tend to identify myself more with Thoth than any other god or mythological entity.

As for my avatar - it was something I made about six years ago in a digital photography class. It represents creation and the light of knowledge pushing back the darkness.

Obviously I'm really into myth and symbolism.

My username comes from the anime Zoids: New Century Zero. The Shadow Fox was one of the zoids that makes an appearance late in the series and was one of my favorites way back when. The 1001 was a battle mode, I believe. Combine and there ya go.

My avatar is of the main character of Tales of Vesperia, Yuri Lowell. He is probably my favorite main character of any rpg or video game series ever.

The things he did were certainly a lot darker than what most RPG main characters do (particularly for the "Tales" games, I believe). His character was also a lot more well developed and deeper too than you usually see. Yuri definitely made that game stand out in my mind.

My user name is pretty much random, but I'll tell you a story. Back in around 2001, I created a GameFAQs account with the user name "Myoky". I came up with the name by randomly typing characters, and I liked it. About 2 years later, my account on GameFAQs got banned for reasons I cannot disclose. I then created a second account, with the user name "facts" (no clue where this came from). I still use my "facts" account there. Anyway, so I came to the mag in '06 (I had been here before, but always as a lurker, and even had a game listed in issue 1.2 of the mag in 2003) under the user name "facts", just like my GFAQs account. About a year later, I asked to have my user name changed to "myoky", because at the time I was feeling nostalgic, and to be honest, I like Myoky better than Facts; but, some people here still prefer to call me by Facts.

By the way, "Myoky" is pronounced Mai - Oh - Kai (I need to get you off to a good start with my name. It's too bad that I was too late for some people *glares at Lantis*).

As for my avatar, I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series (except these new games. WTF is up with no world maps and no towns? I wish they would go back to games like FF9 and FF6). I also like Chocobos and the web-comic VGCats. While reading some VGCats comics one day, I found a pretty funny one: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=72 (Note: my old avatar was originally the one of the right with drool in it's mouth).

So yeah...

My name comes from Gemberling and the pic is from Plants vs zombies. It took a lot of personal struggle and growth to change it from my old avatar of Torneko from the Dragon Quest series but more specifically from the spin off game of the late nineties, World of Dragon Warrior- Torneko: The Last Hope.

Most of my family are Cancers, dude.

I'm the only one born in August, which has no holidays.

My mother and grandmother are Leo - I'm the only Cancer in my family. Maybe that explains why I'm the black sheep. The other popular theory is that I was switched at birth.

@Thutmose
First of all the reason I know your name is because I one time wrote a mystery/horror story for sophomore English class about Thutmose II who was discovered by archeologists. He wasn't a mummy and yet HE LIVED!!!

An interesting related side note is that one time someone here at the Mag (I think it was Sumisem or possibly Fayorei) wrote something about "It was a harsh and stormy night". I thought "Oh my god, that is how I start my story about Thutmose II! How would they know that!?" So I looked it up on wikipedia and it turned out that this was a very common cliche beginning for a story and then it came back to me that the english assignment was to write a short story using one of these cliche openings (I don't remember if we were assigned them or could choose from a list). I wanted to write about Egypt anyways so I started the story, "It was a harsh and stormy night, unusual in Balat, Egypt..." :D

As for my avatar and user name, I wrote this long ass essay about it when someone else (I think Lantis) created a topic for this same question. I can never find anything using the Mags's search engine so if someone can find it, maybe they can link it here. Thanks.

:)

Thutmose II isn't as popular a pharaoh as the III, so it's pretty interesting that you chose the II to use in your story.

(I know it's weird - but "pharaoh" just never looks right to me. per-3 or nswt-bjtj is so much better.)

I did a search to make sure that I wasn't duplicating this thread topic, but I couldn't find it. :|

Wellllllllll .... Everyone must know well enough by now, but, for your benefit, Thutmose ^_^ ->

I am a protector - a Knight - of the pretty angels, as my sig clearly states (one of them; not the current sig), or rather, all girls sweet, pretty, and innocent. I tend to call such girls "princesses", and since the name Sarah means "princess" in general, well, there you have it. ^_- *bows low*

... Oh, and I do things that knights commonly do, like use polite and formal terms, and humbly bowing. ^_^

..... And also because this ->

... is the cutest girl in all of anime, and she's an actual princess.

Cancer FTW (Not the disease, of course)
Guarionex is actually a name I really like. There are a few people named that way in the Caribbean, and I wouldn't have minded being one of them.

The names comes from a Taino cacique from La Hispaniola (which is now know as Haiti and Dominican Republic) but was dervien to Boriken (Puerto Rico) during the SPanish COlonization at the end of the 15th century. He then became a cacique in Otoao (known now as Utuado, PR)
Oh, a Taino cacique is a Chief of the Taino tribe, the indigenous people from the Bahamas, and the Antilles.

I was aware of most of this (i just did a bit of research) but I just found out that the name means "The Brave Noble Lord"

One would think I'm very knowledgable of my country's history. But I'm really not. But since Taino is one of our three main heritage (along with Spaniards and Africans) we used t to get shoved all this info about them every year at school.

My avatar... well I've had a few avatars and I've stuck to them for quite a while before changing it.
The first one was the red silhouette of a coqui (tiny frog native of PR) with a yellow G on it, then it was Pit from Brawl, because I simply liked him, then it was Vyse from SKies of Arcadia. (One of my favorite RPGs) and now, my Avatar is from a facebook aplication. It's a werewolfish pet I made called Manx. I rarely use that app anymore, nbut I checj it once n a while to get new clothes an alter my Avatar every few days.
