Tonight, Phelps has done one better than Mark Spitz in winning 8 Gold medals at a single Olympics.

After amazing at-the-last-moment finishes, he's at the top of the world. I saw the two races in question, and my heart pounded right out of my chest! Holy crap.

Once we get out of all that gymnastics BS, China falls behind.... way behind. Track and field is where the U.S. is going to start running away.

No. Trust me, China sucks at track and field usually. Throughout most of the olympics, the asian countries have been good at gymnastics (namely China and Japan), but they've never been good at Track and Field. We tend to catch up in track and field and with the sports. China's pretty good at a lot of other things outside of the track stuff. This year, China has been making their athletes train every day for many hours. They don't want to lose in Beijing. Go figure, right?

so happens on my breaks today in work the olympics were on.. bit of wresting in my 15 mins... i dont' understnad wresting .. basically they were punching the air around each others heads then had a little hug then walked off for a bit .... rinse and repeat? how do they decide score and stuff in that? iunno...
but on my 30mins there was .. oh what was it called... 'show jumping' ^__^ and there was this guy with really pretty grey horse who wnet around all perfect in like 88 seconds .. then this guy who was 61 came on and did perfect in 87 seconds.. and he was Canadian!! =D i was like yay i bet he used to be a mountie! and then after that it was like ... jump off or something? not sure what that meant but it was 4 americans and 3 canadians i was like wee cool ^^
@gnasher - what is canada in portugese? since we arn't exactly doing well enough to be on that chart <_< .. we do better in the winter olympics.. naturally...

V er.. my point was how do they know who wins? nothing decisively happens one side or another...

Wrestling is based on win-lose. If you win, you advance and so on. It's not based on style points or anything.

Not REAL wrestling. The wrestling in the olympics is like the high school and college wrestling where you actually throw each other around and sh*t. Duh.

Dudes. Dudes. Let me clarify.

Professional Wrestling is television, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, and crazy stunts with flips and insane suplexes and so forth. It's scripted. It's damn cool to watch. And it's fake.

In the Olympics they practice real wrestling. It basically involves throws and grapples and pins. Points are mostly awarded for throws (takedowns). If you successfully pin the opponent, you win. It's a very brutal sport, really.
In the Olympics, they have two kinds: Greco-Roman wrestling, in which you can't trip the opponent of "actively use your legs", and freestyle wrestling, in which legs are allowed.

If what you watched seemed lame, it was probably because both wrestlers were trying to get a hold of each other and no one did anything impressive =P But that's how it is with the real pros, pure strategy, no one shows any opening.
