It doesn't matter from what work of fiction. Just right now, think of 10 memorable swords and list them. Put them in spoiler tags so that people won't be influenced. Don't cheat.

Just the first 10 that come to mind. Include the work of fiction, if you can.

Master Sword - Legend of Zelda
Buster Sword - Final Fantasy 7
Excalibur - King Arthur
Soul Edge - Soul Edge
Soul Calibur - Soul Calibur
Alastor - Devil May Cry
Delflinger - Zero no Tsukaima
Gunblade - Final Fantasy 8
Sword of Kings - Earthbound
Sword of Gryffindor - Harry Potter

though i already can guess which swords will appear most often on here ill mention the ones that i think of.

masamune - various, fft is the one that first comes to mind
murasame - various, chrono trigger is the one that first comes to mind
gun blade - its a blade ok, ff8
sword of valor - tibia, online game
ragnarok - ff7
apocalypse - ff7, looks so damn awesome
cane sword - zotachi's weapon of choice, epic
green dynasty sword - crouching tiger hidden dragon
caladbolg - ffx, bloody pain to get, nearly broke my controller in frustration.
excalibur - if this sword isnt on your list then you need to find it and commit hariki with it.

edit: i took sword to be more of a blade rather then direct use of the word.

1. Masamune - Chrono Trigger, also, tons of media.

2. Estok - German Sword, I believe. It's in a few games, Lufia 2 is one of those. WHO REMEMBERS THAT STUDIO NAME AND SITE OF MINE? :lol

3. Excalibur - Tons of fiction. I'll go with Runescape, since it's pretty handy in that game.

4. Sword of Kings - Earthbound. All my rage.

5. Bastard Sword - An actual generic-kinda sword type. Distinctly for me, Tales of Destiny at Straylize Temple.

6. Kukri - Once again, a versatile common blade. I still think a bit of a sword more from the size, and I'm thinking of Lufia II again with this one.

7. Master Sword - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, several other Zelda games although not always explicitly by name.

8. Dual Blade - Lufia 2

9. Sword of Omens - Thundercats

10. Flowen's Sword - Phantasy Star Online. Most aesthetically awesome sword in that game for me.

Location: Out there. In that place. You know, with the "thing"
"Zangetsu" - Ichigo's "Zanpaku To" In "Bleach" (Approximately translated, it means "Piercer Of Heaven") This is the second sword Ichigo Kurosaki uses in the anime and is formed from his own Shinigami Powers, as opposed to the sword he first uses. It is constantly in it's Shikai state as Ichigo does not know how to seal it, nor would it be advisable as Ichigo's spiritual pressure is such that doing so might "crush" the swords' own soul (if sealed). Another character (in "Bleach") by the name of Kenpatchi Zaraki has a similar "problem."

"Excalibur" - The sword granted to king Arthur Pendragon by the Lady Of the Lake, in various Arthurian Legends. Often confused with the Sword in the Stone, however they are NOT the same. Excalibur is fabled to be able to grant its bearer the ability to never fail in battle. When Arthur died, the sword was given back to the Lady Of the Lake that it might not fall into the hands of Englands' enemies.

"Vorpal Blade" - The sword that is fabled to be the Bane of the Bandersnatch, a nightmarish dragon that terrorizes Wonderland in Lewis Carol's' "Through the Looking Glass"

"Sword Of Omens" - The sword Liono Uses in the Anime "Thundercats"

"Soul Edge" - A demonically possessed Sword from the video game "Soul Blade."

"Master Sword" - The blessed and eternal sword of Hyrule. It's origins are sketchy, and there may be more than one version of it throughout history, but one thing is certain, it seems to gain power as time progresses... From the video game series "The Legend of Zelda"

"Masamune" - This is actually both potentially REAL and at the same time a bit of a legend. There was this sword-smith in medieval Japan named "Masamune." He is said to have made the best swords like EVER. (he probably figured out some method to increase the carbon content of the swords, or it was his annealing techniques, possibly both) However, the thing is that his swords were strong, able to keep a razor sharp edge for an insanely long time even under heavy use, and yet surprisingly light and rust resistant. He supposedly was commissioned by both wealthy shoguns and Samurai alike for their personal sets. That part is known. Where the legend comes in is that some say he made one sword for himself and it was his absolute BEST WORK. Using every bit of knowledge and technique he could muster, and he would not sell or part with it for any price. After his death it ether stayed in his family or was stolen, depending on who you ask, but the point is that if the legend is true, THIS SWORD IS REAL AND IS STILL IN EXISTENCE.

"Diamond Sword" - From the videogame "Minecraft" This is the most powerful sword you can make as a base weapon. It requires a stick and 2 diamonds arranged in a vertical pattern on the crafting grid to create. It has become one of the items most associated with Minecraft after the diamond pick and the grass block. It had the most durability of any weapon and can usually one-hit-kill most mobs it is used against.

sorry, I could only think of 8. :/

@ lantis
Dude, I ran out of time, cut me a break! sheish....

(and then lantis says...)

Well you shouldn't have written a novel.

(and then staffy says)

Well I thought that peaking at other peoples lists to learn the desired format would be too much like cheating, which I was asked not to do.

There, saved you an argument, Lantis. :)

1. Lantis wouldn't have said that.

2. Peaking would be reaching some sort of upper bound, which I'm sure you wouldn't have done with other people's list.

3. There was not going to be an argument.

4. :)

Now now, Syn. You know how Staffy gets if you call him out when he's wrong. Just let it go.
