<a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/05/20/homebrew-solution-m3-real/">Original article.</a>

<a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/ds-homebrew-glossary/">Terminology</a>

There are quiet a few of these Slot-1 cards that will run homebrew apps, but I settled with the one in the link above. Found it on amazon and came with a USB Mirco SD adapter for computer and a Slot-2 rumble pack. I've already got a 2 gig micro SD card, so I should be good for a bit.

I know there are more DS users here thand PSP... and seeing as the PSP modding thread went a good ways, maybe this will be even more successful. And I'll be the guinea pig. ^_^

Hmmm I am intrigued.

Does it the M3 Real flash the DS? Or is it an emulation?
Do you need the Slot-2 Accessory for anything DS related or just GBA?

To my understanding it does flash the DS. Though I'm not entirely sure. I guess we'll see whenever I get the firmware updates and such and actually sit down and do it.

Also you don't need the slot2 accessory. It's basically a rumble pack... kind of like for the N64 controllers. So supported NDS games will probably take advantage of that.

(on a side note, I remember you posting about a game called N+ a long ways back... PSP just announced they are porting it... lulz)

And the verdict: A must...

It in no way modifies your DS. It can be argued that it really isn't even a mod. The M3 Real card can be moved from DS to DS freely, and the only thing it will ask you if you move to another DS is just your language.

So after the mod, my DS can now play MP3s, and video media. It has to be a specific format, but I have a converter that came from M3's site that'll convert videos for you... very handy. I had a 2 gig Micro SD card from my old phone that I was able to use. If I didn't already have one, I probably would have gone out and bought a 4 gig instead... but for the time being, it'll work just great.

In addition to having the ability to play media like a PSP, My DS now rumbles, which isn't anything major, but what IS a major is that is can emulate DS games flawlessly. Anything that is in .NDS format will run like a charm. You also don't have to go to the DS home screen... you get a new one. ^_^

The M3 I got came with the rumble mod, the M3 card, and a Micro SD to USB adapter to transfer files. And there's no iffy battery modding (aka pandora's batter), flashing, or custom firmware... Anyone with a DS has no reason not to do this.

That's teh M3 software you need. Also has some extra stuff you can grab... like the video converter and stuff. The software already has the Moonshell software for your media... so you don't need to download that.

I just placed the order and I can't wait! The total price was less than to mod the PSP. For this I only paid $38 including s/h. I will def use this on a plane trip I have planned for Nov. Very useful.

And now you won't even have to worry about carrying around a crap load of carts.

Lantis, you're somewhat new to the mag staff, so this little rule probably slipped past you.

but agetec has FORBIDDEN both the pav and mag from taking about how to pirate (much less endorsing it) games on our sites.

What you have posted here, if agetec sees it, will get the mag permanently cut off from them. Considering all the PC RPG Maker piracy they had to deal with when they were trying to get those titles here (before enterbrain decided to do it themselves) they really have no tolerance for this.

All he has to do is specify the usual thing about owning original copies of what you have roms for and all is good.

Not at all.

No game company falls for that BS excuse. it has no legal ground.

Please understand that I've talked to agetec about this stuff extensively. Hell, one of my orders at agetec's forum as an admin is to ban anyone who mentions the use of copied/pirated software on sight. I know the company's stance on this. especially now that a HUGE chunk of their income comes from their DS games.

we are not allowed to talk about it. that's all there is to it. one of 3 rules agetec enforces with us. there must be a swear filter, there can be no porn, and nothing about pirating software, period. disclaimers don't matter.

not trying to be mean. I'm looking out for Ixzion here.

If lantis had left it at being a MEDIA PLAYER and not even mentioned that the thing can play retail DS games, THEN everything would be fine.

You are actually legally allowed to make a backup of any game that you own, provided you make it yourself. If you have the tech that allows you to do that, then you're in the right and I would allow that talk on the forum.

But the rom talk does have to end. Sorry peeps.

No no... valk's right. Dispite my word not being good enough, I have done nothing illegal with this hardware or the sofware you can place on it. Nor did I ever tell/recommend anyone to download games they have yet to own. But you can always fall back that you CAN... and because of that, there's no way this thread can continue without being scrutinized.

So, in an attempt to fix my naivety as staff... I'll go ahead and close out this thread before it goes anywhere else.
