This game is awesome. If you played Final Fantasy XII, and were disapointed by the battle system, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

Why? Because the game does virtually everything right. I'm 20 hours in and haven't found anything to nitpick about. The graphics are gorgeous, the battle system is actually FUN, the VA's are wonderful, the whole game is amazing.

I will admit the story isn't much to write home about, but it's told out wonderfully and it's nice to have a simple plot-line for a change. I think the best thing that keeps dragging me back though is the battles, totally awesome.

So anyone else play this?

I'm 4 hours into the game, at the factory with the dumb robot controlling it. The story is okay but the worlds are so beautiful.

Umm... I dunno about you guys... but I find story the most important factor in a RPG.

If you don't level up and use your wits it can be difficult. But its not really hard.

I'm mixed about this game. I felt really let down by Level 5 with DQ8. From what I've seen of this game it is gorgeous and the gameplay is supposed to be flawless. But from what I've heard of character development and predictable storyline, I'm not quite sure I want to spend money on it.

Story is a big deal to me. But if it's simple I can deal with it. A good battle system and fun things to do can take the place of a good story (don't get me wrong. There neds to be something.)

But bland characters really gets to me. Even in fighting or shooting games, for a me there has to be a solid character. In an rpg good characters and character development is incredibly important because it's the whole Role part that makes up Rpg.

So yea..basically I'm worried about another DQ8.

You're talking about a RPG right? If so, is it for PS2?

Forgive me for my ignorance. Haven't been actually game-updating myself recently...

If your worried about the story, don't be. I was too when I bought it, but after awhile of playing it I really liked it. It's not deep but it's good.

The whole story reminds me of Indiana Jones, only in space. Once you get pretty far into the story, (chapter 9, I think), it really starts to get interesting and you can't put it down. Not to mention that the VA's are awesome and the script is put together wonderfully.

As for how hard it is, I think it's actually really easy. It's not like most RPG's where every few dungeons are so you need to spend a hour or more "grinding" to go up a few levels so you can beat the next boss. It's not like that at all.

I have been able to progress through the game without stopping to "grind" once. I think the game requires more strategy than strength. For some bosses you need to do something like freeze them or shut down their sheild temporarily before you can wail on them with your powerful attacks. Others you need to attack the boss in a certain way. All the bosses have unique moves that require you to adapt your strategy you you don't get nailed.

Also, there's no magic in this, at all. You get healed by potions only, and you take A LOT of damage. However, potions are CHEAP, and can be found almost everywhere, and a great thing about them is when you go into your item menu, the game pauses, and you can choose and use several potions instantly, healing up your party all at once in a boss battle.

All in all, It's a cool game. I took a risk buying it because I, like some of you, was worried that they story would be a killer issue, but it's not, I actually really enjoyed it.

Should I go with Rogue Galaxy or AR Tonelico: Melody of Elemia?

I'll be getting both down the road, but which should I get first?

I have both and get Ar Tonelico if you are going for the collectability aspect of gaming. Otherwise Rogue Galaxy is your best bet.

AT is a fun game, but it really feels dated. They throw alot of new information at you in the first ten minutes without any explination and alot of cutscenes when all you want to do is PLAY the game.

RG starts you off with a huge DUNE meets STAR WARS kind of feel. And thats not a bad thing. As you go along it really gets fun though. And it really plays like a new game going along with some of the more popular trends we see in todays RPGs. For some reason it reminds me of Legend of Dragoon. Not for its gameplay but more for its timing in the line of hopeful FF killers.

In the end its your decision, but ,in my opinion, RG is the winner.
