First you have to upload them somewhere, You could use the attachment feature when you post, you have to hit the post reply button and there is an "Attachment" section below and you just browse for you photos, or if you upload them on a site like http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.imageshack.us they give you the url for your photo and you just stick it in the url spots in the below examples:

Code:

bbcode is - [img]http://www.site.com/extention/photoname.jpg[/img]

html is - <img src="http://www.site.com/extention/photoname.jpg">

For the computer uninitiated, extensions are the 2 to 4 letters after the period in a file name used in Windows and various other Operating systems to determine the type of a file. The following are image extensions

UnCompressed
.bmp - Windows Bitmap files
.tiff - Another type of uncompressed image file, though these can be compressed
.psd - photoshop image file

Compressed - all are lossy
.jpg - JPEG (Joint Picture Expert Group) files, which are good for natural images
.gif - Graphic Interchange Format, used for images with few colors, or PC type images, also can be animated, also support transparency
.png - Portable Network Graphic, also good for PC images, support translucency (variable transparency)

These are the big ones, and for internet compressed is always used to lower file sizes while keeping most of the image quality. Remember though that IE is retarded, and will not display pngs with transparency properly (until 7 is released).

So now you know, and as they say, knowing is half the battle.

and the other half is that bit where the guy with the big sword and the helium balloon muscles comes running screaming at you, and you're left totally without any strength at all, staring like a rabbit into the highlights of his hair.

Then, of course, you die.

actually i think what she meant by 'extension' is where i wrote extention in the examples.

that whole bit in the quotes for the examples is just the url of the photo, usually sites like imageshack and photo bucket give you the url in a little box so you can copy it. photo bucket actually gives you three boxes, one with just the url, one with the html code and one with the bbcode.

Yeah I missed that, I was looking for the word extension somewhere in your post. Obviously wasn't looking hard enough.

So yeah what Sumi said, it's just the part of the url between the host (www.your-site.com) and the actual file. So like the path for normal image with your drive being the host (C:/pictures/image.jpg, with pictures being the "extenstion" [actual word is path]).

Not really, just the variables and functions you create. IDEs take care of all the rest, especially if that IDE is eclipse.

So what were we talking about.

Images, oh yeah. Well from what I've seen imageshack is a better hosting place than photobucket, so I would go with them if I were you. I probably will soon, as my hosting at my school will be running out in about a week.

>__> eek, personally i have always found (from viewing other's pics who use imageshack) that when you link to an image it comes up with this webpage that has the image and there is ads and popups and half the time i just close the window before the image even loads and it's annoying, i find photobucket to be quite a bit cleaner, i actually tried to get an imageshack account once but it didn't really work out... i couldn't figure it out.. it was annoying >___> to each his own. but i would reccoment photobucket .. just to controversial and annoying.

This english thing really isn't working out for you is it :).

I remember one of them forceably resizes images, can't remember which one it was. I know with imageshack you can choose whether to have it resized or not. I'll probably do some more research into them over the next week as I move my images over to somewhere else, and try to figure out how many of them are broken on the couple of different message boards I post on. That will be fun times (which I could have had them link to my current domain, but for some reason since it fowards it did not allow me to link to images using it).

But yes ads are annoying, but seems the best way to get all this stuff for free, so hey they're good for something. As long as they don't start doing that flash thing that covers the page, or opening popups and popunders it's all good (looking straight at you IGN/Gamefaqs).

well photobucket resizes them if they are too large file size wise, their limit used to be 512kb but it's up to 1meg now, so unless you are putting crazy large files on there then it isn't really a hinderence.

the english thing seems to be working well enough since you did manage to understand what i said *shrug* =P

Personally I'd listen to bad grammar over hearing GI Joe quotes...

And to stay on topic: you could also use XML for pics.
