I was just wondering, how many people here think that traditional Fantasy RPGs are cliche? (or does that depend on what the story is)

If so, I would like to know what other types of games (that are possible on either RPG Maker 1 or RPG Maker 2(for RPG Maker 2 don't think of a game that would have massive stuff like Tetris.)

I'm asking this question because, when I play RPG Maker I only see a traditional Fantasy RPGs, I don't see a fancy game that everyone seems to like now. And I would like to try to make a game that people would like if they don't like the traditional stuff. (even though my heart and my mind tell me to do what I want.)

Also, if you have read my topic about my RPG Maker 1 game, I may have some little surprises in that game that arn't too cliche

Cliche can be fun if you like it.

But to answer the question;

Try a Science Fiction Game!

Or a game starring Animals instead of People;

Or even something Original!

Just have fun.

Forget what anyone else thinks!!

Is the fantasy genre cliche? Yes, but I don't care.

Yes, Fantasy RPGs have some cliche aspects to them. So, cliches aren't necessarily bad things. Take a cliche with a twist and make a fun game. I'm with Draygone and Rodak on this one. If others don't want to play it, that's fine, as long as you're happy with it.
