it seems pretty clear that it isn't an April fool's joke. Everyone over at the Pav is talking about it. Ixzion is the one who started this thread. The mystery of it all is kind of cool. This is too big of a thing to be a hoax. :)
Yay.

Yes I was thinking about posting if this was a April fools joke. But I was afraid if it was.. I would not want to ruin the fun for the admins by blowing there joke. :/

If it IS an April Fools joke, I'm going to be pissed. From the info that Valk and Ix have supplied me, though, I don't see how it could be.

When RPG Maker does come to the next gen consoles I think DS or Wii is most likely.

360 - Has never sold well in Japan which is the main market for Enterbrain

PS3 - Is selling well but not as well as Wii and Valk has said that Enterbrain has had some dislike toward Sony recently

Wii - People keep saying the previous games were on PlayStation but there series has been on SNES, GBC, and GBA as well.

RPG players are obviously the target audience and the RPGM series goes where they go. Both Dragon Quest and FF went to PS1 and 2 so those were the obvious choices then. This time they're split, FF on PS3 and DQ on DS/Wii. But with DQ being much more popular than FF in Japan and DS/Wii already outselling PS3 by a wide margin, that'll be where the biggest RPG gamer audience is.

And people keep saying it's too early for a new RM. This would be the first announcement. At best the game would be in early production. Which means probably another year before it came out in Japan and one more year before it comes to the US.

Valk stated at the Pav already that it's not on a handheld.

Agreed. Also, Enterbrain has had no relations with Microsofts consoles in the past.

I hate printers, but it is still better than writing things by hand... if you don't mind a little metaphor.

Indeed. I have a link to that information in the previous page... if I'm not mistaken.

Actually you would be wrong here. Firstly, the next RM is not for a handheld. And last I checked the ONLY rpg that Wii has is Twilight Princess and that can be played on the Game Cube. If they honestly wanted to find the true RPG audience, the would actually have to go Sony seeing as Xbox has.... Blue Dragon... and that's about it.

That's actually a very good observation. Props for that...

Oh, and welcome to the Mag, by the way. Hope you'll stick around. ^_^

He said this announcement isn't about a handheld, based on stuff he said last night on the Pav and in PMs I don't think this announcement is going to be about a new RM game.

I was talking specifically about Dragon Quest which is the most popular RPG series in Japan. Dragon Quest Swords for Wii is currently scheduled Spring 07 so it's coming within months. FF13 and Vs13, the other major RPG series, aren't coming until next year.

i don't think we're being misled in believing this is about another RM.

Yeah, now I'm very confused. By what's Valk's said I thought it wasn't but Ix specifically says it's the next RPG Maker. I think we're all going to be surprised one way or another come Sunday.

I still think it is too soon even for a FIRST announcement.

Granted that might not be the case if the announcement is officially only for the Japanese RPGM.

... and the demo would be in Japanese?

... in a different region, to boot. i don't think it's likely to be about a japanese release.

but then i don't exactly know ><

Well though of course we won't know till Sunday, I think Valk may be implying that this is actually a "sequel" of sorts to an old RPG Maker (from his hints that one being RPGM2). So this may be the reason he hesitates to call it the next RPG Maker.

But who knows, they have been purposefully cryptic so far.

I say "Let it be RPG Maker 123!"

They've got to get simplicity out of 1, power out of 2 and graphics out of 3.

The only problem is that, like the game developing incompetence law states, that will be just impossible ^^

I'm game for a mix of 1 and 2 or 1 and 3, though.

Yeah... but weren't there pre-existing development plans for 2.5?

What you are suggesting would need to be made from scratch!

That's too expensive if pre-existing stuff that is sale-able exists.
