A support thread that offers support instead of asks for it?! ZOMGBBQWTF! (Btw all the code was disabled in the post so you can see how it is done)

Anyway, with the new forums and only supporting BB code instead of HTML, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread telling you how to do all the BB versions of everything HTML. I see a great number of signatures that still have loads of HTML in them, so in case you didn't know (which might not be the case... BB is problably the most simplistic code to use by end users) here's how this works.

Instead of linking with <a href="linkgoeshere">text</a> you will be using [url=linkgoeshere]text[/url]

A bit more simplistic but gets the exact same result. Instead of the area which has the word 'text' you could (and probably most commonly will if in signatures) you'll just be using images which require [img]urlofimage[/img] which will end up looking like [url=linkgoeshere][img]urlofimage[/img][/url]

The other new process is embedding videos. The two seemingly most common video formats used at the mag are Youtube and Viddler. As you can see we have tags for each. Originally, Youtube embed code looked like this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HITbNBWOq_o&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HITbNBWOq_o&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

which is kind of a mess. Instead, you'll need the URL of the video, which is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HITbNBWOq_o and what you'll need is the characters after the = sign. Copy that and put it between the youtube BB code tags:

[youtube]HITbNBWOq_o[/youtube]

For Viddler, you'll need the text from the embed code, not the video's URL. Here's an example:

<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="437" height="370" id="viddler"><param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/player/ac4d9142/" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/player/ac4d9142/" width="437" height="370" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" name="viddler" ></embed></object>

The code you'll need is the numbers and letters after value="http://www.viddler.com/player/ and exclude the last slash.

So it would be...

[viddler]ac4d9142[/viddler]

Anyway, that should cover the most of it. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

This will need stickied, especially so new members will be able to easily look up how the Viddler and Youtube tags work.

Can we use this for requests for BBCode as well? I was thinking of incorporating BBCode for a twitter widget. I was wanting to place one in my sig, some to show updates on the site for my LPs, but also so I can make quick news posts to my twitter if I choose from this site. Just a thought.

I'm unaware of how it works, but if you PM me the embed code, I could probably work something out. I guess it links to your twitter account somehow?

I found this. Not sure how it gets implemented, but maybe you will understand it better.
