The RPG Maker Magazine: Version 5.5
There no mistaken that the Mag has made quite a few changes over the past few months. And I would like to take this opportunity to break each of these features to light. As each new feature comes out, we may begin to overlook the still new ones that are yet to be used. So let's start talking about what one can do at the Mag other than post in the forums.
Well, let's first just start looking at what's available just for viewing pleasure. Probably one of the oldest functions is the Game Vault. It has always been kept up with all the game that we here have made. But with the new functions, it has become easier. With the Data Center, you no longer have to click multiple links to get to just one title. All the games from all the makers are on one page. This is perfect for the Ctrl F function. But that’s not the half of it. Once you have selected a game, you can see how many times it has been previewed or reviewed. You can also add comments about games as well as rate it. Think of it as if it were a YouTube video or something. Navigating the collection we here have generated is now much more user friendly.
But when you comment and rate, it actually affects the next feature I would like to bring up: The new List page. This here is a group of lists that let you know statistically. As of now you can few the top 25 best reviewed games, the 15 most commented games, the 20 most downloaded full games, as well as the 20 most downloaded demos. Four of these lists can change at any given time based simply on your actions in the Game Vault. This give incentive to both comment and rate games as well as re-visit the Top List page. The more activity we can muster, the more useful this function will be. Also, now you don't have to worry about trying to get a game in the Game Vault by submitting it in a thread, but can upload it direction into the vault. You can also do this with sprites as well since we are now trying to populate a sprite database.
Let's not also forget that with the new changes to the Mag, you can become an Editor or Contributor and add articles to the Mag. Also if you haven't seen them yet there is are new formats for Articles, Issues, Previews, and Reviews respectively.
But the newest feature to the Mag is the new SideSite Accounts (SSA). These are accounts that are required for you to use some of the previously mentioned features as well as being able to use IMAGine, a service just like Imageshack or Photobucket. Imagine also has the ability to create folders to help sort all the pictures you wish to upload. But the main focus of the SSA is the profiles you can create and edit for yourself. Firstly there is master User List of all members who have a SSA.
So, what can you put in your SSA profile? Well, allot more than your forum profile, to be sure. Of course there's the standard avatar and email as well as a biography (or description). But also you will have a link to your studio, if you have one as well as a list of every game you have created and submitted to the Mag and the platform for each. There's also a list of articles, previews, and reviews that you’ve made as well. Basically everything you have done will be listed here.
I really would like to encourage you, if you don't have a SSA, to get one. And if you do, to take the time to fix it up. Once you do, into the forum and edit your sig with this image:
Here is the code:
[url=whatever][img]http://www.rpgmmag.com/imagine/imagez/ssamag.png[/img][/url]
Take out the "whatever" and paste the link to your SSA User Profile. Then take just copy and paste that anywhere in your signature. This way there will be an easier access to everyone's profile in the forums.
The Mag has grown at a crazy pace these past few months and I would love to see people started to use all these new features.
