Email all games to: contests AT rpgmmag.com

Ix-Edit 12/15/07: Amazingly, the 4 people who gave me a PM said that they would definitely need more time to finish their games. No one is near completion after 9 months. You all trying to make epics here???

Therefore, the contest will be extended to a full year, so it will now end on March 1, 2008. However, this is the final extension.

If there are no games done by then, no one gets anything. If there's 1 game, it will win by default.

-------------------------------

RPGMM Official Contest Rules:

The contest is open to newly created games for the RPG Maker 1, RPG Maker 2, and RPG Maker 3 only.

This contest is not your run-of-the-mill "make the best game" competition. Oh, the goal will still be to make the best game you can, but we have decided to throw in some fun stipulations.

Have you ever played a game that has left you in awe and wanting more? What about a game that ended so abruptly that virtually no plot elements were fully fleshed out? Of course you have!

The goal of this contest will be to create a sequel to previously established RPG Maker Games. Competitors will first choose their desired RPG Maker Platform, and then choose from a list of 3 different RPG Maker games, each of a different genre.

You may only choose from the list of games below.

You may choose to make a prequel, sequel, or gaiden.

Be advised: Creators of the original games MAY create a sequel to their games. But we may find it necessary to scrutinize a little more carefully. Wink
-------------------------------------------------

The games:

RPG Maker 1:
Survival
Cursed Desires
Remote Control

RPG Maker 2:
Zelda: Link's Adventure
The Faith of One

RPG Maker 3:
Whispers in the Woods
Second-to-Last Fantasy XXVI
Series 1: Destiny Beckons

Notes about the games: If you need the password to the original game, so that you can reuse areas/sprites, send a PM to either Ixzion and Myself. All passwords have been released to us with permission of the original creators.

For those working with Series 1: Destiny Beckons: Please refrain from using a title such as "Series 2." This is at the request of the original developer.
---------------------------------------------------
The Deadline:
November 1st, 2007
---------------------------------------------------

The Prizes:

1st: (1) Copy of the RPG Maker Megazine and a $100 Visa Gift Card
2nd and 3rd: (1) Printed mag copy of their choice and a $10 Visa Gift Card
----------------------------------------

A very special thank-you goes out to the original developers,
Alzar, Perversion, Vonwert, Brock Nash, and Dragaron. Each will receive a $10 visa gift card at the completion of the contest.
-----------------------------------------------------
Good luck!

Interesting selection of games to work from. I've played all of the RPG Maker 3 games listed. All kinds of things can be done with those. So many directions one can go in.

Nice perk of the $10 visa card for each of the creators, too.

No one can complain for lack of time if they really want to enter the contest either. 8 mos. is pretty fair indeed.

Isn't there spose to be another game for the RPGM2 option?

The only one's I've played through are both RPGM2, and second to last fantasy... Then again, there's time to play through em and see.

*shrug*

What I really like about this contest is the idea of building on someone else's work.

Now that music is very commercial, many people do not patron the idea of providing to the public free license to build of an idea or expression so everyone is so protective of their creative works, but in terms of classical music, it was common practive to provide variations on each other's original themes.

I believe in the benefit of releasing control over ideas and expressions by allowing them to serve as a premise on which others can also build.

I consider this contest to be an excellent example of providing a fourm for communal creation of works from the imagination and I encourage eveyrone to take part in it.

I haven't played any of these, can someone tell me how Zelda: Link's Adventure ends so I can build of that? When does the contest end, I can't find it even though I saw it somewhere?

I already got it all planned, even down to the name:

Series 2: Perversion's request denied!

You have enough time to play the games to get an idea on how to create a sequel. If you don't have a max drive or sharkdrive or PSP then it wouldn't matter, because you couldn't enter the contest anyways.

That sounds like fun. I would love to change around someone else's game.
:)

Me too. Now I just need to find time to take my own advice and get something made.

Sucks that the sequel MUST be the same maker.

So, who is working on entries for this contest???

I'm making a prequel to Whispers. I've been working on it for a long time.
I'm about 40% done, so now I have to really buckle down. I've got most of the hard parts done (all the maps, general story outline and such); I just have to complete the events/gameplayfor about half the game.

This will also be my really good release for RPG maker (my first was Duder & the Mager, which was more of a joke to learn the software and how to make games(even though that did win the Pav contest)). I'm putting just about all I can think of into this game--trying to make it a real fun game to play.

I recently made a level where you climb up a mountain to encounter a town of ghosts, and then you have to journey through the Fire Caves to reach the middle of a volcano.

Any other updates?

The selection of titles is kind of small.

I'd be more than happy for Hippy Hunt 2 to be up there.

Why can't we just choose any title on any RPGM platform?

I need to know if people can make a spoof as part of the contest or not.

Yes, you can. So long as long as it follows the concept of being a sequel, gaiden, or prequel.

Last month of Sequelpalooza! If you haven't started, you still have time to create a short game based on one of the eligible games!

Hurry up, guys!
